The Sailor's Prayer

I loosened the ropes that once held me fast,
Not in rebellion, but in reverence.
The winds of my becoming rose fierce—
And I let them carry me.

No map, no promise, only the hush of
salt and soul and stars.
One flag down, the other raised—
my own.

Through storms and silent waters,
I drifted beyond belonging
and into truth.

I thought I was alone.
But my soul, ancient and tender,
was always at the helm—
whispering, This is the way.

Reflections

  • What “shore” did you have to leave behind in order to honor your becoming?

  • When did you know it was time to lower the old flag?

  • What does the “new flag” you’ve raised symbolize for your life now?

  • Where have you discovered inner peace after a time of inner turbulence?

  • How do you know when your soul is guiding you?

Journaling

There comes a moment in every sacred journey when the familiar must be released—not because it is wrong, but because your soul has outgrown it. To lose sight of the shore is to step into the threshold between identities, between allegiances, between lives. Light a candle and read the poem slowly aloud.   Journal as you answer these questions:  Where in my life do I feel tossed by the storm?  What am I ready to trust to the tide?  What is the steady short I long for within?    Anoint yourself with a drop of water at your heart as you say: "May I trust the current.  May I find stillness within the swell.   I am safe to let go."
